The OFIC Seniors program is operated from two locations, Ottawa and Milton.About the OFIC Seniors Program OttawaOur Vision: Help seniors from the Indo-Canadian community and all others of Indian origin across Ottawa and the surrounding areas to improve their quality of life.
Our Mission: To provide opportunities for interactive participation and inclusion in different community activities to all seniors of Indian Origin in Ottawa and the surrounding areas.
Our Goal: To share, promote social participation, information exchange, and discussions among seniors of Indian origin across Ottawa and the surrounding areas. Propagate rich Indian heritage, culture, values, traditions, and contributions of Indo-Canadians in the Canadian mainstream.
Our Objective: Implement projects and activities to engage seniors across different fields such as: social, cultural, health & well-being, sharing senior wisdom, expertise, knowledge & skills, etc.
Proposed Activities: 1. Announcements, socialization, discussions
2. Sharing knowledge and ideas
3. Sharing music- songs, jokes, life stories
4. Workshop/seminars on health and wellness, fall prevention, nutrition, safety for seniors (personal, financial, fraud and cyber-crime, banking, legal wills etc.), computer and social media training and other topics of general interest
5. Volunteering
6. Organizing Outings/tours/picnics during summer
7. Yoga and seniors exercise program
8. Buddy group formation to reduce loneliness and isolation
9. Community tea/snacks
Eligibility: The person should be of Indian Origin and of the age 55+.
Ottawa Seniors Program Organizing Committee: Soon, Mr. Suraj Harish, Director Seniors Program and Sunil Sharma, Director PR, will plan the day-to-day activities for the seniors. They will have their own team to assist them.
