Festival of Vaisakh

Vaisakh, Vaisakha, Boisakh, Baisakh, Bohag, Vaikasi, or Gudi Padwa is a month of the Hindu calendar that corresponds to April/May in the Gregorian calendar. It is also the first month of the Punjabi, Odia, Assamese, Bengali, and Nepali calendars. This month lies between the second half of April and the first half of May.

The Festival of Vaisakh is a showcase of cultural traditions and an opportunity for the rest of Canada to understand and appreciate age-old traditions of Canadian of Indian origin. More than anything else, it is a celebration of Canadian multiculturalism.

Overseas Friends of India Canada in collaboration with the High Commission of India celebrated this Hindu New Year at St. Paul High School. Ottawa.

There were many beautiful performances representing various states of India.

The event was a huge success and about 550 people attended.
